An Important Message For All GP Students

As you were told in the first lesson, 25% of your grade will be based on your "Self Study" - i.e. the extra work you do outside the classroom. You should be updating your self study folder/notebook/blog every week and by the end of term you should have at least 12 pieces of work to show me apart from the lessons and homework set in class.

All GP students have been looking at sentencing this term - the principles behind it, the different approaches to it and the problems inherent in it. This is work that you should be following up for self study to give yourself extra reading and listening practice. Below you will find links to 2 articles and podcast (with the script) that talk about many of the issues we have discussed in class. You can use this to recycle vocabulary and improve your reading and, especially, listening skills.

To get credit towards your self study grade you could:
  • Write a brief summary of the main points
  • Write a paragraph giving your opinion in response to the article/podcast
  • Make a note of any new vocabulary (words, phrases, collocations)
