Preparing For Your Tutorial December 2010

Preparing For Your Tutorial

Reflection is an important part of the learning process – every student needs to take time to think about their progress. What have you achieved this term? What do you need to work on in the future? What are your short term and long tern goals for your English language development and your University Studies? Come along to your tutorial prepared to talk about these topics and bring with you all your self study material – homework and independent study that you have been doing throughout the last 12 weeks.Your tutorial is also an opportunity for you to voice your opinion about the course. Did it meet your expectations? Why?/Why not? How could the course be improved? You will be asked to talk about these issues with your teacher during your tutorial.

Progress Test

Giacomo, as you missed today's lesson you have a final chance to take the test in the last lesson on 14th December.

Homework
Prepare for your tutorial on 14th December. Bring evidence showing all the extra work that you have done to improve your English this term. Check all the blog posts - have you done everything I've suggested? Remember self study is worth 25% of your final grade so it could mean the difference between passing and failing this term. This will also be your last chance to submit essays or give a presentation.

A Note About the Progress Test.

The overall performance of the group was extremely poor. You are meant to be B2+ which is a post FCE level yet your working knowledge of grammar is very weak. Tenses, verb structure and hypothetical/conditional questions were poorly done. If you are unsure of these areas, it is up to YOU to do the extra work that is necessary to get up to speed. Most disappointing of all though were the questions on error correction and vocabulary. If you had paid attention in class and done some revision this was an easy 30%, however it was evident that many of you have put in the bare minimum of effort this semester. I will be very interested to hear from you in tutorials. In particular, I want to know what you intend to do next term to improve your level because if you continue like this then you will not pass the module.
