Self Study: As your progress test on 30th November will cover everything you have done at B2 level, start revising the language (grammar and vocabulary) you have learnt, not just this semester but in previous semesters. You will get credit for this revision as part of your self study grade and it will help you get a better mark in the test, so it's a win/win situation. Now is the time to check for anything you don't understand and ask me questions.

You don’t know the reader so you need to be very formal and polite

What sort of people attend the course? – Be more specific e.g. Where are the students from? Are they law students or practicing lawyers?

Make conclusions based on the data try not to make up conclusions that rely on information from outside the graph/table provided.
e.g.
It seems from the data that more people are deciding to live alone which will have future implications for housing, infrastructure, taxation policy and pensions.
The graph showed projected growth so FUTURE tenses were needed.

Has an increase - not really the right collocation use increase as a verb or use the verb to be
e.g. There will be an increase in the number of one person households OR The number of single person households will increase.

Essays

·        Answer the question in the introduction and give an overview of the essay (rather than giving definitions or background)

·        Use clear paragraphs

·        An essay is formal therefore no contractions

·        Articles – over use of “the”:  the bullying

·        Countable/uncountable: a legislation, a bad behavior, researches, informations

·        Over formal latinate phrases due to over-translation: In this epoch it is much felt the problem of bullying  > Nowadays, the problem of bullying is strongly felt.

·        False Friends: According to me > In my opinion, Dispositions > orders, regulations, rulings

·        Keep Subject, Verb and Object together at the start of the sentence: In Canada it is adopted a legislative solution > A legislative solution has been adopted in Canada.
